Child Safety Pledge
Our campaign urges the establishment of a universal and comprehensive pledge by funders of Jewish organizations that work with children to require their grantees do everything in their power to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse.
The Child Safety Pledge will work to end sexual abuse of minors in Jewish settings by elevating awareness and encouraging organizations to adopt best practices to prevent and report child sexual abuse.
The goal of a Child Safety Pledge is to encourage funders to make grants and give donations only to those Jewish organizations that have implemented policies and procedures that address child sexual abuse – policies which apply to and are understood by all personnel who interact with children.
The immediate objective in establishing a Child Safety Pledge is to create a funding environment that rewards organizations that have adequate policies and procedures to prevent child sexual abuse through education, training, prevention, and reporting and simultaneously encourages non-compliant organizations to improve their policies and procedures.
The ultimate purpose is to create a safer, more transparent, and more accountable environment in Jewish organizations that work with children.
We urge you to sign the Support Statement to help us create a Child Safety Pledge!
Here’s what the statement is in support of…
We, the undersigned, approve of the effort to
Create and Promote a funder pledge strategy for philanthropic giving only to those Jewish organizations which have taken adequate steps to prevent, report, and investigate sexual abuse of minors, and
Encourage the adoption of comprehensive anti-child sexual abuse policies by every organization that works with children and Institute necessary procedures and systems to prevent child abuse through rigorous hiring and training practices, and
Provide sufficient continuing education and support for staff and volunteers for them to recognize signs of abuse and know how to respond effectively to suspected incidents
As early supporters, we encourage our peers to join the movement to establish a Child Safety Pledge and will be among the first to sign one meeting our requirements once one has been crafted.
